Success

The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness cannot be pursued, it must ensue. And it only does so as the unintended side effect on one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself.

During the Revolutionary War, America’s fight for independence from England, George Washington and his troops were freezing at their winter quarters in Valley Forge. The Americans had not won a battle against the English. Washington sent a letter to the U.S. Congress asking for money for food and clothing. The Congress replied they would send money if Washington would guarantee success. Washington replied, “I can guarantee you something greater than success. I can guarantee you that we will deserve success.”
