Random acts of kindness can increase your confidence, boost your sense of being in control, and increase your self image. It may encourage others to repeat these acts of kindness, which contributes to a more positive community. We feel better when the recipients feel better, which again makes them more likely to be kind to others.

This Merit Badge recognizes your efforts to perform these acts of kindness. Your ultimate goal in this activity is that this becomes part of who you are and these acts of kindness become embedded in your personality. No more prompting is needed, you just do it naturally.

Develops these qualities:  Friendliness, Selfless, Self Respect, Positive Mental Attitude, Communicator, Faith and Compassion.

In a journal or on a calendar, record at least one simple act of kindness you did for each day. Once you complete your journal or calendar for the month, answer and submit the questions below to earn the Merit Dog Tag.

Here are some sample acts of kindness:

  • Always say please and thank you
  • Donate used toys
  • Donate used books to a school
  • Hold open a door for someone
  • Return someone’s cart at a store
  • Call your grandparents
  • Pick up litter
  • Compliment a friend
  • Set the table for dinner
  • Buy a coffee for a stranger
  • Take treats to a fire station or police station
  • Read a book to someone
  • Say hello to everyone you see
  • Help make dinner
  • Clean up your room without being asked
  • Shovel the snow off a sidewalk
  • Check in on elderly neighbors
  • Start a game with your friends
  • Send an encouraging email to someone

You will earn 200 Merit points
